- A submit-corrections route on every performer and film page
- Maintained by named volunteer editors rather than scraped automatically
- Distributors, studios, directors and a glossary all searchable separately
- The holdings are stated exactly rather than rounded into a boast
862,387 titles and 230,160 performers and directors, and the sentence stating it also says who keeps the thing running: a volunteer staff of editors, picking up the work of the person who started it. Databases in this field are usually anonymous scrapes. This one names its lineage in the first paragraph and gives an address to write to.
The correction route is the important part. Every performer page and every film page carries a submit-corrections button, so errors have a published path back to whoever maintains the record. Distributors, studios and directors are searchable in their own right, there is a glossary, a reviewer index with statistics, an interviews series and a blog covering industry events.
What you do not get is a modern interface. The navigation is dense, the pages are plain, and coverage is openly described as centred on the American industry, so European and Japanese credits are thinner. For establishing who was in what, when, and under which name, nothing else in this section comes close.
